Gas Powered Scooters: A Fresh Form Of Transportation
If you’re looking for a way to get yourself about, consider using a gas powered scooter. In the past few years, these scooters have gone from a novelty item to a seriously considered form of getting about, for a number of reasons. From size and convenience to fuel economy, stand up, gas scooters have become incredibly popular recently. Brands have started marketing these scooters to a whole new demographic, and for a number of reasons their numbers are really picking up fast, especially in urban areas.
The gas powered scooter offers a different way of getting around. These scooters feature two wheels, one in front and one in back, very low to the ground. The base of the scooter is made of a standing platform that stretches between the two wheels. This is known in the industry as the “deck” of the scooter. It gives the rider a place to rest their feet or to stand when needed. Atop the deck there is a raised seat, much like that you will find a bicycle. And also similar to a bicycle, the gas scooter features a post with handlebars on the front.
But up to this point, the design is similar to standard, non-powered scooters. These un-powered scooters are operated by the rider not sitting, but standing and using his or her feet to kick against the ground and propel the scooter forward.
But with a gas powered scooter, there is a very small gasoline motor (usually at the base of the seat, near the rear wheel) that provides torque against the rear wheel and propels the scooter forward. This allows the rider to stay in a supported standing position, and rely on the gas from the scooter to power the vehicle.
The first gas powered scooter, called the “Sport”, was released in 1985 by a company called Go-Ped. Now, in the past two decades there have been incredible progresses in the industry. With dozens of scooters available, some of the biggest names are not only Go-Ped, but also X-Treme Scooters, Coolster, and Razor.
